SKINNED KNEES: The Benefits of Risky Play
In this workshop participants will have an opportunity to explore the importance ‘managed risk’ in children’s play to keep them engaged and learning. Content is geared towards those working with the birth to six age group in a family literacy setting. A light lunch is included.
- The science behind the benefits of risky play.
- How risky play impacts literacy and learning.
- How access to active outdoor play–with it’s risks–is essential for healthy child development.
- Strategies for practical applications for ways we can increase opportunities to expose children to developmentally appropriate situations that allow them to self-manage risk.
