We often cover and talk about Twin Oaks on this website. Our editor Jacob, has visited a couple times and has found it a community that works well. It’s definitely a model to aspire to.
Twin Oaks is an experiment that inspires. We model a different, more sustainable and fair way to live together where everyone has all they need, and everyone contributes.
Twin Oaks is one of the most successful self-sustaining and ecologically friendly intentional communities in the country.
Right now, we have the chance to preserve 105 acres, increase our self-sufficiency in agriculture, and increase community lands by 25% in our area. Here’s how you can help us do all that!
Over the last 50 years, we have grown from 8 people on leased land to 91 adults and 15 kids on 450 acres owned by the community. We are hoping to expand again and we are asking for your help.
105 acres were recently clear cut near Twin Oaks. Clearcutting can have major negative impacts, both for humans and local flora and fauna. By purchasing this land we can prevent it from ever being clear cut again.
The total cost is $150,000 and we only need to raise half and we want to do that by the end of the year.
We will partner with other communitarians nearby to use the other half for many sustainable projects.
We want to purchase this land by the end of 2017. EVERY gift is useful, every amount of money you can spare for this will help us achieve our goal that much faster.
