On October 20th, our editor and website director Jacob Buller and Myriad Village co-founder Justin Lecocq presented a workshop at The Gathering. As the local event of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network, The Gathering featured workshops on social enterprise, conflict resolution, cooperatives and more. This was the first time ecovillages were promoted in Manitoba in a public space for social enterprise.
Twenty-three people attended Eco-Villages: Slamdunking the SDGs, Jacob and Justin’s workshop. The workshop went smoothly with no technical challenges. Questions were asked by an engaged audience of students, professionals and career individuals. Jacob examined Twin Oaks through the lens of the UN’s sustainable development goals. Myriad Village was introduced as a forming village with Justin talking about it’s origins, their philosophies and what their objectives are.
First and second issue copies of ‘The Co-Creator’, the official newsletter of ecovillages.ca, were given away to attendees as well. Almost all attendees signed up for future issues of the newsletter.
We wish to thank everyone who came and who was involved. Thank you to Jenna for help at the last minute, providing a laptop when detail was not legible. Thank you to Holly Dyck for providing help after the last minute.
