IELC is a community that started in 2013 with a vision of creating a community for families to grow authentically together. They officially opened doors in 2016.
The founder, Bethany Beaudry, began her journey of learning about holistic education when she engaged in her Masters of Arts in SelfDesign: Designing Learning Communities. She started learning about holistic philosophies such as The Schools of Reggio Emilia, Natural Learning Relationships, Awareness through the Body, and SongWorks Education. Once she developed an understanding of each, she brought them together to produce what is now practiced at Inspired Explorations Learning Community.
The mission at IELC is to provide programming to enhance the embodiment of learning, the reflection and awareness of ones senses, the building of meaningful relationships, playing with purpose and to honour the developmental unfolding of each member.
The IELC vision is to create an intergenerational community of lifelong learners who learn together, value each other, and honour each other’s authenticity. A community that creates a space to unfold naturally at one’s own pace, evolve consciously and foster socially compassionate and emotionally aware human beings.
Each month IELC hosts Inspired Families Gatherings which families are encouraged to attend. These provide a space for our community to come together and build deeper connections with each other. IELC feels that these opportunities empower their community members and improve the shared community vision.
They currently have one Principal/Lead Educator (Bethany Beaudry), one support educator (Chloe Tang), 14 learners (11 families), and six board members as a not-for-profit organization.
IELC has moved into Charleswood at 5905 Roblin Boulevard! They have renamed the school to Beaver Creek Academy, which is a chapter of the Inspired Explorations Learning Community.
The outdoor space at the Academy is gorgeous and includes a large green spaces forest, a creek, play structure and the Assiniboine River. The indoor facility will be completely renovated to provide a calm space for learners to work and play. On August 21st is a FREE BBQ. All are welcome! They are doing this to celebrate their new location and move.
Bethany discovered holistic education through her studies with Self Design Graduate Institute. She realized she wanted to offer a different way of educating children when she went back to work after her second maternity leave. She realized her beliefs about education were different and not resonating with the public system. She then embarked on a Master’s of Arts in Self Design: Designing Learning Communities. A whole new world of holistic philosophies unfolded over the next 4 years. Within her Masters she was able to choose the courses she wanted in order to create the building blocks of her school.
All of her mentors were from the Masters at Self Design Graduate Institute. People like Fleurette Sweeney, Elaine Decker, Renee Poindexter and David Marshak were significant influences.
As they move into Charleswood, the goals for the future are to expand and grow within the spaces acquired. IELC also have the goals of developing a bursary fund, an outreach program, teacher and caregiver workshops, and multiple school locations/communities.
